What is sublimation base?

Sublimation base is a medium to transfer an image from a sublimation sheet onto rigid surfaces such as wood, tile, metal, and other rigid surfaces.

  • Comes in a 60 cc glass container

Before sublimating, the surface must be prepared

To sublimate on wood, you must:Apply 3 coats of white acrylic paint to the surface. It is necessary to use a white background, which will help the colors of the sheet to be as similar as possible to the original image.Sand the surface until it is smooth and even.To sublimate on tile, you must:Clean the surface thoroughly with alcohol to remove any dirt and grease. And be careful not to touch the surface before applying the base so that it adheres optimally.Step 1Cover the area to define the base where the color of the image should not be. Securely cover with tape.Spread the sublimation base in a single direction and evenly, applying the product generously to create a thick layer.Step 2

  • To apply the base, a flat, wide brush with soft bristles is needed so as not to scratch the surface of the base.
  • Do not apply the product directly from the container; use a disposable container.
  • It is important to let it dry for 24 hours for the base to cure, ensuring that no bubbles form from the heat of the iron, which could damage the work.
  • After letting the piece cure for 24 hours, it doesn’t matter if it takes days or weeks to perform the sublimation, as the piece will be ready to use whenever you want to work on it.

Place the sheet design-side down and secure it with tape at the top left and bottom right corners.Do not use steam when ironing, as it may dampen the sheet and damage the design.Place tracing paper on top, and with the iron at maximum temperature, slowly pass it over the entire surface, applying good downward pressure. The sublimation time depends on the heat of the iron and the size of the sheet; it is important to lift the unglued corners of the sheet to check which areas still need heat.Repeat the ironing process until the design is completely transferred to the piece.PrecautionsUse the product in an open and well-ventilated area, as it is a solvent-based product. When finished, clean the brush with thinner or any other diluent.Keep the product closed when not in use to prevent drying.
