Savannah was released in 1971 as a dedicated vehicle for the rotary engine (RE). The RX-3 name of the Hot Wheels is the name for export specifications, but even in Japan, the first generation Savannah is often called RX-3. Unlike reciprocating engines that generate power with regular piston up-and-down movements, RE’s power can be generated with the rotational motion of an anatomical piston, called a napple-shaped rotor, and the drive feel is not a “motor.” Although the RE-equipped cars are not already available on the market, Mazda has made it completely commercially and practical, and many people like to think it is one of the Identities of Mazda. Hot Wheels are designed with the race RX-3 motif, and are made with a tall Nippo specification inspired by a Japanese deformed plastic model that was popular in the 1980s
